Post holiday forecast

Post by Skip28 »

So....JD has laid out a potentially teasing forecast for the 5-10 day outlook. For a moment, forget about how much of that might fall (and not as rain) .... my question is, has the ground up north even started to get a decent frost? Even if a ton of snow fell, would the groomers be able to get through - particularly in the swampy areas? Have the lakes even started to freeze?

The swamps and marshes are full of water and yesterday the ice was just hard enough to walk on in most areas. With the rain and warm temps today I would think the little bit of frost and ice will be melting. Its is going to take a lot of cold temps to freeze things up and 6" of snow before some subzero weather would really make a mess of things. :frown::mad:
yesterday the ice was just hard enough to walk on in most areas. With the rain and warm temps today I would think the little bit of frost and ice will be melting.
Clark Lake (Goodman, WI) was iced over this morning, when I took the kids to school.
But looked like it opened back up, when I picked them up this afternoon. :frown:
I guess 40+°F temps and rain will do that.

We're sorry, Al Gore! We believe you!! Can we have our snow back now?

Ya gotta love the optimistic snow fall totals on JD.

It's good to see the temps will finally start dropping tonight and stay at freezing or below for the next week....and more?

...SNOW EXPECTED ACROSS NORTHERN WISCONSIN LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
THROUGH SATURDAY NIGHT...

AN UPPER LEVEL DISTURBANCE APPROACHING FROM THE SOUTHWEST WILL
BRING A ROUND OF SNOW TO NORTHERN WISCONSIN LATE TONIGHT THROUGH
SATURDAY NIGHT. THE CURRENT ESTIMATE IS FOR A TOTAL ACCUMULATION
OF 3 TO 5 INCHES NORTH OF A LINE FROM RHINELANDER TO CRANDON TO
IRON MOUNTAIN. A SNOWFALL OF 2 TO 4 INCHES IS POSSIBLE AS FAR
SOUTH AS A LINE FROM MERRILL TO ANTIGO TO WAUSAUKEE. THE SNOW
WILL LIKELY LEAD TO HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS.

FARTHER SOUTH ACROSS CENTRAL AND EAST-CENTRAL WISCONSIN...THE
PRECIPITATION WILL FALL AS A MIX OF RAIN AND SNOW...WITH PRIMARILY
RAIN FROM GREEN BAY AND THE FOX CITIES...SOUTHEAST...TO THE
LAKESHORE. SURFACE TEMPERATURES MAY BE COLD ENOUGH FOR A BRIEF
PERIOD OF FREEZING RAIN IN CENTRAL WISCONSIN SATURDAY MORNING.

ANYONE PLANNING TRAVEL SATURDAY OR SATURDAY NIGHT SHOULD MONITOR
LATER FORECASTS AND STATEMENTS FOR UPDATED INFORMATION.

A MORE POWERFUL STORM SYSTEM WILL BE HEADING NORTHEAST FROM THE
SOUTHERN PLAINS EARLY NEXT WEEK. THROUGH CONSIDERABLE UNCERTAINTY
EXISTS REGARDING THE TRACK OF THAT SYSTEM...IT HAS THE POTENTIAL
TO BRING A SIGNIFICANT SNOWFALL TO EAST-CENTRAL WISCONSIN.
