Interesting. Thanks to all who did the work.
So what were the gates put in for in the first place?
I always assumed they were shut at certain times of the year???

They used to close them, but I think for a number of reasons they decided to pull them. One reason being cited was for safety reasons. But I like to think of the number of workhours that it's going to save from not having to open/close gates. Those NST gates were a pain, because they were like 2-half gates to make a whole. So, you actually had 4 locks to unlock/lock and 4 half-gates to swing open/close for EACH road crossing. Whereas most of our trailheads are just a single lock and gate.
