The Grade...State Trail 9 when it crosses Hwy 8

Post by retrocat »

We have always avoided going thru Crandon as the trail ran thru town. Instead we always use the Otter Creek Rd. trail and stop to see Johnny to connect to trails in any direction.
Several years ago, the grade stopped at Hwy 8 and the trail still went thru Crandon on Railroad Ave (if I remember correctly). The railroad was abandoned. Did the snowmobile route thru Crandon ever move to the railroad grade or does it still run along the roadsides in Crandon?
We hope the snow/cold come back so we can get a ride in next week! We really appreciate all the grooming you do to keep the trails the best!!!

The rails are out and it is now called the wolf river trail south from hy 8 in Crandon....trails heading east and west out of Crandon are pretty much the same. You will still go through city back streets to head west, and up the water tower hill to go east.

So, do I understand correctly?; We still need to ride on the trail next to Railroad Ave to go East or West on the north side of Crandon?

Yes north of hy 8 the only change is that you are right on the old rr bed now that the rails are gone.

Otter creek Rd and Spring creek Rd take you towards Crandon from Johnnies.

Thanks much for explaining! We were hoping that with the tracks gone, the trail would now be on the old rr grade north of 8.

Good to know...but :frown:! Hoping for some snow and cold this week and not too much of a warmup as predicted for the weekend, so we can sneak up for a run next week.
