I had this same issue back in March of 2012 after the major snowstorm. There is signage, just not obvious when coming from Wabeno as you stated. I searched the forum for the thread...

I just watched this myself. I, like you, felt it was done in an OK manner. Prior to watching it, I sure felt like I was going to get P-O'ed. I love the area (though I have not been through there in a few years) and was so impressed by the area's ability to take that large amount of snow and have it near perfect by Thursday afternoon.
